Elementary schools across Boulder County participate in the Kilowatt Kidz EnergySmart Challenge, a month-long energy challenge where students learn about important and fun ways to save energy in their home. A cast of characters in the classroom--Kilowatt Kid, Count Plugula and Dr. Drafty--engage students in place-based learning activities that address specific areas of energy use in their homes.
Each classroom sets goals to perform as many energy saving actions as they can, and track their efforts in a classroom chart to monitor progress and share results with other classrooms and community members. The program is offered through Symbiotic Engineering's Teach for Sustainability initiative and is implemented by Eco-Cycle.
