Name Christina Murphy
Hometown Braintree, MA
Fun Fact I'm a Master Crock-pot Chef.
Christina joined the Populus team in May 2012 as an Energy Advisor for Boulder County. Christina is passionate about increasing building efficiency and sustainability and enjoys helping homeowners make their homes more comfortable and environmentally friendly.
Prior to joining Populus, Christina worked in Solar Sales where she helped increase renewable energy usage across the Front Range. Before moving to Boulder, Christina completed her Master's degree at UCSB, where she studied corporate sustainability and energy efficiency. As part of her Master's thesis, Christina carried out a life cycle assessment for a client's product to determine the company's most energy and water intensive processes. A Boston native, Christina grew up in Massachusetts and attended Boston College where she graduated cum laude with her undergraduate degree in Environmental Geoscience.
In her free time, Christina is busy enjoying all that the Rocky Mountains have to offer. She loves hiking, camping, skiing, and trail running, and also enjoys gardening and cooking.
Name Cory Allen
Hometown Haxtun, CO
Fun Fact There were only 19 people in his high school graduating class.
Cory joined Populus in 2013 as an Energy Advisor in Boulder County. Cory is passionate about people and improving the long-term sustainability of the planet. Prior to joining Populus, Cory worked as a Building Science Specialist where he helped homeowners prioritize and implement energy efficiency measures in their homes. Cory has an M.S. from Northern Arizona University where he studied Geology with the intent of entering the environmental field.
Cory is a rare Colorado native who was raised on the eastern plains but has lived on the Front Range for nearly 25 years. He loves spending time with his family, organized sports, hiking, biking, skiing, and just about anything else you can do outdoors. He is a graduate of the New York Institute of Photography and loves to create beautiful images of Colorado's amazing scenery as well as candid people photos.
Name Hannah Bulick
Hometown Boulder, CO
Fun Fact Hannah is a major Sci-Fi nerd.
Having grown up and gone to university in Boulder, Hannah is a rarely-encountered-in-the-wild Boulder native. Hannah holds a degree in philosophy and women's studies from the University of Colorado, where she was a member of Phi Beta Kappa. She is the Customer Solutions Manager at Populus for EnergySmart, and spends her days enrolling homeowners in EnergySmart, managing Advisor schedules, and appreciating being able to make a difference in the town she loves.
Hannah believes in low-impact living, and currently occupies about 250 square feet with her small dog. In her spare time, she enjoys snowboarding, reading and being outside with her dog.
Name Jen Harper
Hometown Alexandria, VA
Fun Fact Can talk backwards.
Jennifer comes to Populus after a decade in the in-home care industry, running her own business which provided assistance to seniors and the disabled in their homes. It seemed a natural transition into the role of Energy Advisor with the EnergySmart program, helping clients achieve greater comfort, safety and joy in their homes. A CU-Boulder graduate with a degree in French, she also holds the Cambridge Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults (CELTA).
Having lived in four states on both coasts, Jennifer has been thrilled to call Boulder her home for the last twenty years. Outside of her role as Energy Advisor, she spends much of her time with the Irish Step Dancers of Colorado and planning a yearly bike race, the North Boulder Park Classic. She and her Boulder-native husband are happily raising a teenage daughter, 3 cats and, (hopefully) a garden.
Name Jonah Fruchter
Hometown Minnetonka, MN
Fun Fact Lived in Jerusalem for a year.
Jonah Fruchter is the SmartRegs Specialist for the EnergySmart program, providing technical assistance to rental property owners regarding the City of Boulder's SmartRegs Ordinance. After the moving to Colorado, Jonah worked as the Regional Field Organizer for the Sierra Club to fight climate change through increasing renewable energy and energy efficiency in Colorado. During those two years, Jonah was a founding member of the Governor's Energy Office Energy Efficiency Working Group and lobbied extensively for policies that would both scale the efficiency industry and protect consumers. Jonah currently sits on the Colorado Green Building Guild board where he continues to advance energy efficiency policies for the State of Colorado.
When not talking about energy policy, Jonah is an active rock climber, backpacker and snow boarder who tries to make the best of a weekend in Colorado's big backyard.
Name Kelsey Lawrence
Hometown Martinez, CA
Fun Fact Kelsey has dual citizenship in the United States and Canada.
A graduate from the University of Colorado, Kelsey has transitioned into the Boulder working-lifestyle at Populus quite happily. With Bachelor degrees in both Physics and Chemistry as well as an Energy Certificate, she brings a wide-range of technical knowledge and a passion for sustainability to the Energy Advisor position.
Although born in Northern California, Kelsey has been in Colorado for 15 years and feels lucky to call this mountain state her home. She spends her free time with the multitude of immediate and extended family members she has in the Front Range as well as making sure to get out and enjoy Colorado as much as possible.
Name Margaret Rogers
Hometown Most of U.S.
Fun Fact License plate is SEA2SEA -- lived on both coasts, now in purple mountains majesty.
Margaret Rogers, our Community Action Lead, helps get the word out about the great benefits of EnergySmart services! She's available for presentations to your neighborhood or organization that wants to learn more about residential energy efficiency.
Margaret is an organic gardener and beekeeper who holds a Green Building certificate from CSU, and LEED accreditation from the U.S. Green Building Council. Her own recently renovated home was the first LEED Gold certified "gut-rehab" in Colorado. She's an active member of Boulder Culinary Gardeners, a board member of the a capella group Ars Nova Singers, and an officer in Boulder County Beekeeper's Association.
Name Matt Wilmoth
Hometown Fairmont, WV
Fun Fact Matt has written a feature-length screenplay as well as a book about self-reflection.
As the EnergySmart Manager, Matt oversees the EnergySmart advising team and provides support to Boulder County and all of the EnergySmart service partners
Matt graduated summa cum laude from West Virginia University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering. While pursuing his degree, Matt gained experience in the clean tech industry by working on a wind energy project for a federal prison, which gave him the opportunity to perform energy analysis and determine the feasibility of installing wind turbines. In addition to his technical background, Matt studied Film and Media Arts at Temple University.
Name Nick Karas
Hometown Seekonka, MA
Fun Fact His family owns and operates a blueberry farm in Maine.
Prior to joining Populus, Nick worked with the Stratton Mountain Energy team to help reduce energy loads from snowmaking. On the weekends, he took to the slopes coaching an all mountain ski team. Most recently, Nick worked in the project management department for a design build firm out of Walpole, NH. Growing up working for his father's construction company, building came natural. He found his true passion while going to school in New Hampshire; the small town surrounded by mountains influenced his desire to learn more about sustainable building. Nick graduated from Keene State College with a Bachelor of Science degree in Architecture with a focus on Building Science.
In his spare time, Nick is looking for the next trail to explore on his feet, bike, or ski's.
Name Peter Machen
Hometown Baltimore, MD
Fun Fact Peter was a metal sculptor's apprentice for 5 years before moving out to Boulder.
Peter graduated Cum Laude from Curry College in Milton, Massachusetts. He has been advising with EnergySmart since 2010 and has worked to make hundreds of homes in Boulder County more energy efficient. He is tall enough to be able to screw in most light bulbs without a ladder. That, combined with his enthusiasm and drive, make him a great Energy Advisor. Peter has studied building science and knows the EnergySmart service inside and out.
In his free time he enjoys exploring the great outdoors and painting murals.
