Christina Murphy

Christina joined the Populus team in May 2012 as an Energy Advisor for Boulder County. Christina is passionate about increasing building efficiency and sustainability and enjoys helping homeowners make their homes more comfortable and environmentally friendly.

Prior to joining Populus, Christina worked in Solar Sales where she helped increase renewable energy usage across the Front Range. Before moving to Boulder, Christina completed her Master's degree at UCSB, where she studied corporate sustainability and energy efficiency. As part of her Master's thesis, Christina carried out a life cycle assessment for a client's product to determine the company's most energy and water intensive processes. A Boston native, Christina grew up in Massachusetts and attended Boston College where she graduated cum laude with her undergraduate degree in Environmental Geoscience.

In her free time, Christina is busy enjoying all that the Rocky Mountains have to offer. She loves hiking, camping, skiing, and trail running, and also enjoys gardening and cooking.

Gaby Larrea

Prior to joining Populus, Gaby worked in Mexico City as a Residential Construction Inspector to verify code compliance and accuracy in scheduling and cost estimates. Most recently, Gaby worked as a Junior Consultant at a forensic architecture firm in Louisville, CO.

Born and raised in Mexico City, Gaby moved to Colorado in 2007 and holds a bachelor's degree in Architecture from the University of Colorado at Boulder. She is also a passionate triathlete.

Hannah Bulick

Fun Fact Hannah is a major Sci-Fi nerd.


Having grown up and gone to university in Boulder, Hannah is a rarely-encountered-in-the-wild Boulder native. Hannah holds a degree in philosophy and women's studies from the University of Colorado, where she was a member of Phi Beta Kappa. She is the Customer Solutions Manager at Populus for EnergySmart, and spends her days enrolling homeowners in EnergySmart, managing Advisor schedules, and appreciating being able to make a difference in the town she loves.

Hannah believes in low-impact living, and currently occupies about 250 square feet with her small dog. In her spare time, she enjoys reading, writing, and being outside.

Jeff Strauss

Jeff graduated from Arizona State University with a Bachelor of Interdisciplinary Studies with concentrations in Urban Planning and Environmental Geography. By bridging these two academic disciplines he created a meaningful program that stressed the importance of sustainable solutions and prepared him to solve complex problems.

Jeff previously worked for an energy auditing company in Tempe, AZ conducting residential energy assessments and completing efficiency retrofits. He is passionate about the environment and social and corporate responsibility and believes energy efficiency is an important step in reducing our environmental footprint! In his free time, Jeff enjoys rock climbing, camping, exploring, cycling, and reading!

Jen Harper

Jennifer comes to Populus after a decade in the in-home care industry, running her own business which provided assistance to seniors and the disabled in their homes. It seemed a natural transition into the role of Energy Advisor with the EnergySmart program, helping clients achieve greater comfort, safety and joy in their homes. A CU-Boulder graduate with a degree in French, she also holds the Cambridge Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults (CELTA).

Having lived in four states on both coasts, Jennifer has been thrilled to call Boulder her home for the last twenty years. Outside of her role as Energy Advisor, she spends much of her time presiding over the Irish Step Dancers of Colorado and planning a yearly bike race, the North Boulder Park Classic. She and her Boulder-native husband are happily raising a teenage daughter, 3 cats and, (hopefully) a garden.

Jonah Fruchter

Fun Fact Lived in Jerusalem for a year.


Jonah Fruchter is the SmartRegs Specialist for the EnergySmart program, providing technical assistance to rental property owners regarding the City of Boulder's SmartRegs Ordinance. After the moving to Colorado, Jonah worked as the Regional Field Organizer for the Sierra Club to fight climate change through increasing renewable energy and energy efficiency in Colorado. During those two years, Jonah was a founding member of the Governor's Energy Office Energy Efficiency Working Group and lobbied extensively for policies that would both scale the efficiency industry and protect consumers. Jonah currently sits on the Colorado Green Building Guild board where he continues to advance energy efficiency policies for the State of Colorado.

When not talking about energy policy, Jonah is an active rock climber, backpacker and snow boarder who tries to make the best of a weekend in Colorado's big backyard.

Margaret Rogers

Fun Fact License plate is SEA2SEA -- lived on both coasts, now in purple mountains majesty.


Margaret Rogers, our SmartRegs Specialist, has an understanding of business issues that face landlords and a desire to help make their properties more sustainable in a cost-effective way, in part due to the Bachelor's and Master's business degrees she earned from Wake Forest University and the University of Denver.

Margaret is an organic gardener and beekeeper who holds a Green Building certificate from CSU, and LEED accreditation from the U.S. Green Building Council. Her own recently renovated home was the first LEED Gold certified "gut-rehab" in Colorado. She's an active member of BGBG, Boulder Culinary Gardeners, and an officer in Boulder County Beekeeper's Association.

Matt Wilmoth

Fun Fact Matt has written a feature-length screenplay as well as a book about self-reflection.


As the SmartRegs Outreach Manager at Populus, Matt provides technical assistance to rental property owners regarding the City of Boulder's SmartRegs Ordinance.

Matt graduated summa cum laude from West Virginia University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering. While pursuing his degree, Matt gained experience in the clean tech industry by working on a wind energy project for a federal prison, which gave him the opportunity to perform energy analysis and determine the feasibility of installing wind turbines. In addition to his technical background, Matt studied Film and Media Arts at Temple University.

Peter Machen

Name Peter Machen

Fun Fact Can do a double backflip off a diving board.


Peter graduated Cum Laude from Curry College in Milton, Massachusetts. He is tall enough to be able to screw in most light bulbs without a ladder. That, combined with his enthusiasm and drive, make him a great Energy Advisor. Peter has studied building science and knows the EnergySmart service inside and out.

When not helping homeowners make their houses more energy efficient, Peter enjoys hiking, travelling, and painting.
